Actors have been asking, “What is the No Acting Please Workshop going to be like? Are we going to work in it or is it more of a lecture?” Here’s the gist: Reread the book, bring it with you to the workshop, and together we are going to work through it, chapter by chapter, and make each page come to life … Of course we can’t go through every exercise, but exercises from each chapter will be explained … or demonstrated through one of the actors in the class.
PRISON IS WHERE I LEARNED TO FLY
Yo Ant,
Thanks for adding me to your blog to plug my latest show, PRISON IS WHERE I LEARNED TO FLY, Landed in LA less than a year ago and to date have booked 2 features, 2 shorts, a TV guest star and the above mentioned play, playing the character Roxanne who ranges from a small child to an adult. On a craft level, I find I’m using Sub parts as my primary Choice Approach … as there are so many quick age jumps. Evocative Words and Images come in a close second to access the fullness of the character’s emotional life.
I wish you were in LA so you could see the show in person. (In the future I will send my private jet to pick you up
I will keep you posted on the success of the sub part approach and let you know if I fall victim to acting” at any point.
Miss you lots
Louise Martin
PRISON IS WHERE I LEARNED TO FLY
Written by Rochelle Duffy
This play is the heartbreaking and ultimately uplifting autobiographical account of local playwright Rochelle Duffy’s beautiful relationship with her incarcerated brother Patrick. After young Patrick reveals he was sexually molested by the parish priest, his father sends him to juvenile hall, thus begins his lifelong drug dependence and incarceration. His sister Shelley is his only consistent contact. This play is a traumatic and beautifully poignant sharing of the events and the letters between this brother and sister, amidst the backdrop of a Duarte family of 17 siblings.

Naomi Watts and Matt Dillon have been set to star in Sunlight Jr., an indie drama that has just begun principal photography in southern Florida. PHOTOS: Elle’s 18th Annual Women in Hollywood Tribute Written and directed by Sherrybaby filmmaker Laurie Collyer, the film follows a pregnant convenience store clerk (Watts) and her paraplegic boyfriend (Dillon) after she loses her job and they fall into poverty and homelessness.
“I was very excited to get a call to assist in the casting of Sunlight Jr for Unique Casting.” says Anthony Vincent Bova. ”I always appreciate the opportunity to get my actors to audition for such projects … especially when the audition is at Ionica Theatre. It’s home court advantage for my actors. We’ll see … the type they were looking for was very unique.
It should be a good film … and looking forward to seeing it - AVB
Today my mentor, dear friend and associate,Eric Morris, has turned 80 years old. For me and many others … it’s a day of joy, love and appreciation. It is also a day I taught a No Acting Please Workshop … how perfect! I continue to be humbled by the gift Eric Morrishas given me. The gift of his work … the mission of his life.
Today was in interesting class. I planned to get through the main exercises and chapters in the No Acting Please … and as usual, I realized I needed much more time … about another 5 days. WHY? The Eric MorrisSystem is (what I have coined) “ocean wide and ocean deep.” Perhaps I am a bit prejudiced because I’ve been under my mentor’s tutelage for 25 years. With that said, theEric Morris System is at least 50 years ahead of its time. In its origin Eric created over 1,000 Instrumental exercises to liberate the actor and close to 35 Choice Approaches. This is not a “technique”. This is a System!
The class took a break today to call Eric from my speaker phone to his cell phone and they all sang Happy Birthday on his VM. We bombarded him on Facebook as well. That was a lot of fun.
Below are a few pictures from the No Acting Please Workshop.
What a day, what a day, what a day!
Eric Morris, thank you! You’ve touched the hearts of so many people. You’ve touched mine deeply … I am so proud to be your friend, your protege and teacher of your System!
With respect and love – HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!
Anthony Vincent Bova
Hi Everyone, I hope you have a happy Thanksgiving. I hope it’s peaceful and filled with lots of love and food!
A quick Thank You to the actors at the BAW, friends, wife, Cathy … and I’d like to express how grateful I am to Jolie DeFeis from Energy Garden, an incredible Marketing Company and Carlos Torres who worked so hard on this new website. These are incredible people … they gave with the spirit of love and pure selflessness and gave 20 times more than expected. Largely because of them, I’m excited on where the Bova Actors Workshop is now but more so on where it’s going in 2012. Also, I can’t say enough about my protege, Doren Sorelli. A pure love! Just love.
I don’t even want to get started on how appreciative I am of my mentor, Eric Morris … you guys know that one all too well. Love that man very much! … and then there’s my mom … the pure example of greatness, and most of all … the beautiful little one I’m holding in this picture, my daughter, Annarose.
Have a happy and loving time … Peace -
Anthony Vincent Bova
